Abstract

This study aims to explain the impact of the project based learning model on the ability to write explanatory texts for elementary school students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type. The research design used was a nonequivalent pretest posttest control group design. The population of this study was grade 5 elementary school students in Jamblang District. Sampling in this study was conducted by purposive sampling. The sample of this study amounted to 50 students who were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The data collection instrument in this study used a test to measure the ability to write explanatory texts of elementary school students. The research data were analyzed using the normality test, then continued with the Mann-Whitney test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that there was a significant effect of the project based learning model on students' writing skills. This can be seen from the significance value of 0.006 <0.005. Thus the project based learning model has a positive impact on the ability to write explanatory texts for elementary school students.
